Palm Antenna
« on: May 29, 2015, 07:49:56 PM »
As I'm still struggling to get on HF here is a new idea. I have a couple of palms in the garden, about 7m high. Plan is to use a 6m fishing rod and screw it on the top of the palm. Giving a total length of about 12 something meters of vertical antenna for 20m.

Has anyone tried this before? I was thinking to eventually put a long nail into the palm to use as some kind of groundplane or at least lightning protection, there is water flowing in it that is conductive.

Would that work or is it just a crazy idea? Someone must have done similar things before....
