Use 245 MHz band legally, as a foreigner?
« on: February 15, 2014, 07:38:49 PM »
If I'd like to use the 245 MHz band as a foreigner living in Thailand, while remaining completely legal, what are the requirements?

Do I need to get a permit/license? From where?

What are the requirements on the radio? Does it have to be certified? How can I tell if a radio has been certified? Or can I bring any 245 MHz amateur radio into Thailand?

I really want to be sure that what I'm doing is legal so that I wouldn't have any problems.

Thanks for any help!

Daniel

Hello Daniel,

The 245MHz in Thailand is Citizens band (CB) not armature radio band. You also need license for the transceiver and station license which is the radio shop can manage for this. I believe that foreigner can not get the license because you need to do the paper work. Require copy of ID card and house registration to apply for license.

Hi Daniel,

just 1 additional comment you also can get the RIG's sold here registered in your name - that is not related to restrictions exclude foreigners! We also can get it!

I was informed that all I would need is my ID or passport and house registration book (ทะเบียนบ้าน), and that the shop selling the radio would fill in the paperwork.

Although the red CB is a lot less tempting now they've allowed 70cms as well as 2m ...

How much does this stuff cost? 2 red sets, cheap version? Always handy, if you do something on the house, like fixing "real" antennas :)

Yellow tabien baan should do I take. Or wife buys it.

I'd take both :)

Have a look on tenmetershop.com or specialintershop.com for an idea of prices. There's quite a few to choose from!
