TS-50 or ICOM 718
« on: August 08, 2008, 12:59:29 PM »
Any opinions about which radio, the older Kenwood TS-50 or the Icom 718. I live in a high rise condo in the "downtown" Bangkok area with a lot of line noise and can only use a small antenna sticking out the window.
Also any advice about what antenna to stick out the window. Thanks !

I would suggest newer, bigger, and combined with filter.
I love Thammasat because Thammasat teaches me to love people.

I have the 718 in my qth and also Tremendous QRM mostly levels around S8 to 9 .
I did install the DSP unit inside but that was little help, It depends what kind of noise and QRM you Have .

I have heard some people using a phasing unit and they say its great but I have not tried this my self, MFJ has one in stock but the price to ship it to Thailand so expensive .

17 Meters,
which rig did you end up buying? What made you choose the one over the other? Are you happy with it?
(I confess reading Reviews on
I'm excited about getting back into the hobby and am paying 14,000 Baht

There is a TenTec 580 Delta on eBay which I covet, but then, it's not approved and

If one like work on PSK31 and other Digi Modes as well, then opt for the IC-718. Send in USB via soundcard and receive with stock CW improves the readability dramatically.
