Pattaya Antenna Brewing Session - MOVED NOV15
« on: November 01, 2008, 08:49:53 PM »
I was planning on making some simple and cheap antenna's.
This does not need to be a solo happening, on the contrary, other HAM's with antenna build ideas or simply interested people are invited to take part in an 'antenna brewing session'.

The idea is to do this coming Saturday.
Nathan suggested and arranged the area near the Pattaya airfield as 'antennabrew location', since we will need some space.

I intend to construct 2 moxon rectangle antenna's (wire version), one for 17 or 20m, and one for 10 meter.
Building materials could be pvc water pipe for the 10 meter, and bamboo or fishingpoles for the 17/20 meter antenna's.
More info on moxon rectangle's on www.moxonantennaproject.com (check out the handy calculator)
I chose to try to build moxon rectangles because of the cheap price, easy construction and good front-back ratio on this 50 ohm antenna.
The intention is to construct an air choke balun 1:1 to prevent the feedline from radiating.
I have never built this type of antenna before, it will be a good chance to try to turn theory into practice.

Besides I will also 'configure' and test an off-center fed wire antenna also called Fritzel FD3/4 for which I have the 6:1 balun.
This should be straightforward, e.g. cutting the wire to the resonating frequencies.

All assistance and ideas are welcome, and if you want to build some antenna yourself it is your chance to join the session and do it..
I will go to 'Ban Moh' on Thursday or Friday to get connectors, coax and necessities for the session. I can bring parts if needed.

How about a wire Yagi,

Spiderbeam or Bird Yagi due to Dick Bird G4ZU or on 11m known as a Skypper antenna due to designer Alex 1SD019

Have made the 11m version and it worked very well better than Antron 99

See plans here http://home.planet.nl/~poelm348/g4zu%20home%20made.html

I'll be there and I'll try to drag Paul along (if I can separate him from his antenna of course;)), can someone provide times and locations please? I'm not sure I know where the airfield is located.

Due to circumstances I will have to postpone the 'Pattaya airfield antenna brewing session' one week --> November 15th.  Sorry for the late notice!
I will contact the people that confirmed they were planning to come over.

The first set of photo's from this event:

I'm sure that Alexander will post some of the photo's that he and his XYL took, these are some that I took on the day in between helping erect the antenna and working the station. QSO's were had on both bands for which the antennae were cut, some of the countries contacted were:

Belgium
Romania
India
Thailand (a 10m QSO with Paul HS0ZIN for test purposes)

all had very good signal reports for us, and the Moxon showed a good F/B ratio with a difference of about 3 S-points. Anyone who missed this event will certainly be looking forward to the next !!!
