Title: DX and HF propagation bulletins
Post by: HS0ZIA on May 14, 2008, 11:57:47 AM
I receive weekly DX and HF propagation bulletins via e-mail from ARRL. If anyone is interested in these, e-mail me and I will be happy to forward them to you. 73 Bob

OK you're on the list. Actually now that I have been surfing around the internet a bit there's lots of interesting web sites with good DX and propagation info. I'll try to make a list and post them in case there's anyone out there even more naive than me about what's out there on the web these days... :D

Here's an interesting site that has links on it to both of these ARRL bulletins plus lots of other ham radio news. Also lots of product consumer reports by hams, a forum, a packet cluster spot etc.

I invite others to post interesting internet links if you know of any...73 Bob

I have been getting 'Real Time' useful HF propagation data from, mainly, the following three web sites.
1. http://www.stroobandt.com/propagation/
2. http://www.blackcatsystems.com/radio/propagation.html
2.1 This site offers a 'Real Time' MUF world map
3. http://www.prop.hfradio.org/
3.1 Tom Hood's site is full of useful links to more detailed solar/tropospheric data.

There are several other propagation observation and forecasting sites on the web. I have found these three to be the most useful.

I was just reading this topic, been a slow day here. Anyway I thought E20FWF's comment was interesting. It is often too easy to overlook the fact that not everyone can grab the essence of a propagation forecast or report, best sellers they are surely not. Anyway, without wishing to teach anyone how to suck an egg here are a few points of note.

There are three primary indicators for geomagnetic activity, 10.7cm solar flux indices, often abbreviated to just SFI, Planetary A index, usually referred to as just 'A', and Planetary K index, usually referred to as just 'K'. It is not necessary to understand the import of these terms to any great depth in order to get a grasp of how they can affect radio communication other than to say more SFI is better and less A and K is better. Okay that is being very simplistic but you get the idea. Now the next point needs to be

Martin,

I just read your reply now and very appriciate for your information. This helps me a lot to read propagation roughly without consider a lot of data.
